Following the January seizure of undocumented sacks of Rice near Zamboanga Sibugay, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. strongly suggested to have the smuggled rice apportioned to the poor.

“That's probably something that we will be discussing to the next Cabinet meeting in March,” Roque said in an interview with radio dzMM. 

“You know that policy is too long, and it is not like (smuggled) cars that are being destroyed for a lesson,” Roque said. 

   

“This is really, because it is food, it may be necessary for those who are hungry, for our people." Roque added. It was estimated to have been 60,000 unidentified sacks of rice amounting to Php 120 Million that was confiscated by the Philippine Coast Guard which was about to endorse initially to the National Food Authority (NFA) for resale, as proposed by Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food Chairperson, Senator Cynthia Villar.
